Junior Backend Software Engineer (Java/Go/Rust/C++)

About the role

We are looking for a motivated junior backend engineer to join a small, technically serious team in Adelaide. You will work on production‑grade analytics and operational platforms that serve safety‑critical industries across Australia.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build backend services and data‑processing pipelines for operational platforms.
• Write performant, concurrent code with a focus on correctness and maintainability.
• Contribute to API design for REST and gRPC interfaces.
• Work with SQL and NoSQL databases, as well as message‑driven systems such as Kafka or Redpanda.
• Participate in code reviews, testing, and produce clear engineering documentation.
• Collaborate with senior engineers on CI/CD pipelines and observability tooling.

Required profile

• A STEM degree that includes a substantial computer‑science or software‑engineering component.
• Some commercial backend development experience, even if limited.
• Strong fundamentals in concurrent and asynchronous programming.
• Familiarity with message queues and stream‑processing concepts.
• Ability to write clean code in Go or Rust (C++ or Java acceptable with strong fundamentals).
• Exposure to containerisation, observability tools, or secure development practices is a plus.
