Industrial Designer (Concept-to-Manufacture)

About the role

An award-winning, international consumer product design and manufacturing business is looking for an experienced, hands-on Industrial Designer in Sydney. This is a concept-led role covering the front end (ideation, form, user experience) and working with engineering and suppliers to bring designs through to high-volume manufacture. The position is permanent and full-time, with salary negotiable.

Key responsibilities

• Own concept development: user-led insight, ideation, sketching, visualisation and form exploration
• Turn concepts into production-ready solutions: CAD development, engineering collaboration, prototyping, testing and refinement
• Apply Design for Manufacture (DFM) so designs are feasible, robust and cost-effective at volume
• Produce clear technical outputs (CAD, drawings, specifications) for tooling and production handover
• Work closely with manufacturing partners in Asia to validate processes, resolve issues and maintain design intent
• Occasional international travel to manufacturers for design reviews and production support

Required profile

• 3+ years designing physical consumer products; strong portfolios are valued, especially with proven concept ownership
• Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineering or similar
• Full, unrestricted and ongoing rights to work in Australia

Required skills

• Concept sketching, rendering, rapid prototyping and confident idea presentation
• End-to-end product development: concept, prototyping, CAD, DFM, tooling support to volume manufacture
• Solid understanding of materials and processes such as injection moulding, sheet metal, die-cast and CMF
• Advanced 3D CAD skills (SolidWorks preferred)
