HSE Business Partner - Defence Division

About the role

Service Stream, a new Australian Department of Defence partner, is looking for an HSE Business Partner to join its Defence division. The role supports Property and Asset Services across South Australia and the Northern Territory under a long-term contract of an initial 6-year term, as a permanent full-time position based in the Larrakeyah Defence Precinct, supported by a team of Operations and HSE professionals.

Key responsibilities

• Support and coach managers and workers to understand and meet their HSE responsibilities, acting as a role model
• Help teams apply Critical Safety Controls (CSCs) for high-risk tasks and use learning-based safety principles (SCLP)
• Be visible on-site, lead by example and engage teams using the Walk, Talk, Lead, Care (WTLC) approach
• Use PQRST conversations so teams and subcontractors know what is expected for safety
• Complete spot checks and site visits to reinforce safe workplace behaviour
• Review incidents to find root causes and fix systems, not just symptoms
• Coach teams on toolbox talks, inspections, audits and risk assessments
• Lead improvement projects with new ideas, tools and better ways of working

Required profile

• Experience in health and safety, preferably in infrastructure, construction, mining, defence or similar environments
• Experience managing HSE requirements on major engineering or construction projects, with a strong track record working with project contractors (highly desirable)
• Relevant qualifications in WHS or equivalent
• Current Australian driver's licence and ability to travel to multiple sites
• Australian citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Defence security clearance

Required skills

• Working knowledge of legislation, standards and codes
• ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 / AS/NZS 4801
• Knowledge of the Office of the Federal HSE Commissioner (OFSC)
