Heavy Road Transport Mechanic

About the role

Red Dust Holdings, a privately owned civil construction, heavy haulage and mining services business based in Geraldton, is seeking experienced Heavy Road Transport Mechanics to maintain and repair its fleet of prime movers, trucks, trailers and heavy haulage equipment. The role is based in the Geraldton workshop with occasional site deployments, and is open to Geraldton locals who want day-shift work with flexible rosters.

Key responsibilities

• Perform scheduled servicing, preventative maintenance and breakdown repairs on prime movers, rigid trucks, trailers and heavy haulage combinations
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, air, brake and hydraulic faults
• Inspect and maintain engines, drivetrains, suspensions, steering systems, braking systems and trailer components
• Complete roadworthiness inspections and ensure vehicles meet safety, compliance and operational requirements
• Record maintenance, repairs and defects accurately and complete work to a high standard
• Work independently and collaboratively across the workshop and project teams, travelling to WA project sites when required

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience maintaining and repairing prime movers, heavy trucks, trailers and heavy haulage equipment
• Australian-recognised trade qualification in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology, Heavy Diesel or equivalent
• Valid Australian HR driver's licence and construction induction (white/blue card)
• Full Australian working rights, ability to pass pre-employment medical, drug and alcohol screening, and satisfactory national police clearance
• Experience with heavy haulage combinations, trailer systems, civil construction equipment and air-conditioning is highly regarded

Required skills

• Strong diagnostic and fault-finding across mechanical, electrical, air brake and hydraulic systems
• Sound knowledge of road transport safety, servicing and compliance requirements
• Ability to work independently in a busy workshop and respond to breakdowns
• Strong communication and accurate maintenance-record skills
