Health, Safety & Environment Officer – Regional Civil Construction

About the role

The client is seeking an experienced Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Officer to champion a safety‑first culture across regional civil construction sites in Western Australia. This hands‑on role blends field work, relationship building and continuous improvement of health, safety and environmental performance.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with employees, contractors and client representatives.
• Support the HSEQ Manager to ensure compliance with WHS legislation, MRWA requirements and Tier 1 contractor standards.
• Conduct site inductions, toolbox talks, pre‑start meetings and safety awareness initiatives.
• Perform site inspections, audits, risk assessments and contractor reviews.
• Investigate incidents and hazards, produce reports using INX software and implement corrective actions.
• Monitor plant, equipment and work practices to verify safety compliance.

Required profile

• 3‑5+ years of HSE experience on Main Roads WA or similar civil construction projects.
• Certificate IV/Diploma (or higher) in Work Health & Safety or Occupational Health & Safety.
• Current C Class driver’s licence, White Card and Australian citizenship or permanent residency.
• Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, risk management and behavioural safety.
• Auditor experience within OH&S management systems.
• Excellent communication skills for engaging site crews, management and clients.

Required skills

• Proficiency with INX incident‑reporting software.
• Advanced Microsoft Office skills for preparing management reports.
