Health Assistant (Nursing) - Geriatric Medicine, Fitzroy

About the role

The Health Assistant (Nursing) works in the Geriatric Evaluation Management (GEM) Unit, a 20-bed unit on the St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne Fitzroy campus specialising in the care of older people. Working under the direction of the Nurse Unit Manager or equivalent, the Health Assistant supports Registered Nurses and Enrolled Nurses in providing delegated aspects of patient care and keeping the ward running smoothly. The role is permanent, with AM shifts, and is available full-time or part-time (24-32 hours per week).

Key responsibilities

• Work within the role parameters set out in the position description and the unit's duty list.
• Complete delegated tasks accurately and in line with St Vincent's policies and procedures, contributing to positive patient outcomes.
• Provide delegated patient care such as assistance with personal hygiene, nutrition, mobility, transfers and positioning, and elimination needs.
• Maintain patient privacy and dignity at all times.

Required profile

• Certificate III Health Assistant (Nursing), or another relevant certificate, or satisfactory completion of the first year of a health-related degree.
• Previous experience as a Health Assistant is desirable.
• Strong interpersonal skills and effective communication with staff, patients and families; a reliable team player who enjoys working in a multidisciplinary team.
• Current National criminal history check, or willingness to obtain one.
• Willingness to meet mandatory immunisation requirements, including the COVID-19 vaccination direction.
