Head of Finance

About the role

Zelra, a global rail technology business part of Modaxo and the Constellation Software group, is looking for a Head of Finance. The role holds overall responsibility for the financial aspects of the business unit, working under the direction of the BU Leader with a dotted line to the Group Finance Director. It is a hands-on leadership position combining strategic business partnering with day-to-day delivery, with one direct report and access to group finance support.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the day-to-day financial operations of several P&Ls and legal entities in Australia and the UK, and become a member of the BU Senior Leadership Team.
• Run month-end, quarter-end and year-end closes, prepare monthly business reviews, quarterly strategy reviews and quarterly budgets and forecasts, including variance analysis.
• Provide financial management, analysis and support for large projects, including monthly project reports and regular reviews with Operations and Project Managers.
• Ensure financial controls and compliance with Group policies, with a focus on correct revenue recognition under IFRS, and comply with statutory reporting requirements.
• Oversee weekly cashflow forecasting, accounts payable and receivable, and payroll governance and compliance.
• Manage audit processes, including the local UK audit and internal controls, and liaise with internal and external auditors and accounting firms.
• Invest in the professional development of finance team members through training, mentoring and continuous learning.
• Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders, support Modaxo management and other business units as required, and lead process-improvement initiatives using technology, AI and automation.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Business, Finance, Commerce or a related discipline.
• 7-10 years of professional experience, including at least 5-7 years in financial and management accounting in a commercial environment.
• Accredited CA/CPA qualification.
• Proven ability to lead, develop and motivate direct reports.
• Experience in strategic planning, budgeting, forecasting and commercial decision support to senior leadership.
• Previous experience in a Project Delivery and Service/Support environment is highly desirable.

• In-depth knowledge of IFRS.
• Advanced proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
• Strong analytical skills and exceptional numeric aptitude.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
