Head of Engineering - Customer & Digital

About the role

CommSec is Australia's leading online share-trading platform, offering online and mobile trading solutions. As Head of Engineering, Customer & Digital, you will provide strategic technology leadership across the customer and digital portfolio, partnering with product leaders to define the digital roadmap and deliver high-quality technology solutions at pace. The role sits within CommSec Technology, acting as the senior technology partner for the Customer and Digital teams.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute the technology strategy and roadmap for customer and digital experiences.
• Partner with product leaders to turn customer needs and business priorities into scalable technology outcomes.
• Lead the delivery of secure, resilient and high-quality digital and AI capabilities.
• Grow diverse, high-performing engineering teams across multiple locations.
• Strengthen modern engineering, cloud, DevSecOps and continuous delivery practices.
• Own the performance, availability and total cost of ownership of the portfolio's technology assets.
• Align architecture and delivery decisions with enterprise technology strategy and engineering guardrails.
• Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, learning and continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Substantial experience leading complex digital engineering portfolios and building technology capabilities.
• Proven experience shaping and delivering digital, engineering and AI technology strategies.
• Inclusive and credible leader able to set direction, navigate competing priorities and bring product, engineering and business stakeholders together.
• Strong people leadership, with experience developing leaders and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and align teams around a shared product and technology vision.
• Experience in investment, securities or digital financial services highly regarded.

Required skills

• Deep knowledge of modern software engineering, architecture and microservices.
• Experience leading cloud-based technology teams, ideally with exposure to AWS.
• Strong understanding of CI/CD, DevSecOps, release management and reliable technology operations.
• Data-informed approach to prioritisation, investment decisions and continuous improvement.
