HD Mechanic Leading Hand

About the role

UON, an integrated energy company in Western Australia, is looking for an experienced, hands-on HD Mechanic Leading Hand to join its Energy team at Malaga. This is a Perth-based job with early starts and finishes, from 6am to 2:30pm, paid at a competitive hourly rate.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate the quality of work of team members and give feedback to management for reviews
• Resolve issues between team members and raise concerns to the line manager or HR as needed
• Mentor, train and assist apprentices, the mechanical team and trade assistants, giving hands-on help
• Help with work planning, scheduling and resource allocation around the weekly maintenance plan
• Carry out planned and ad hoc inspections of UON products
• Install and commission UON products in the workshop, yard and WA mine sites
• Provide predictive and reactive service, maintenance and repair of UON and client equipment
• Complete general maintenance, repairs and component changes on surface mining equipment
• Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults in engines and power generation equipment
• Modify and assemble equipment to company specifications, and reassemble diesel engines after repair
• Travel to site or stay at the Perth base yard as work requires

Required profile

• Minimum Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade
• At least 2 years' experience as a leading hand or in a supervisory role, and 2 years post-trade in team leadership or a similar role, preferably on mine sites
• Current and valid WA HR Class driver's licence (preferred)
• Unrestricted right to work in Australia; applicants must live in Perth; no sponsorship offered
• Ability to mentor and lead a team of mechanics

Required skills

• Repairing and rebuilding diesel engines, CUMMINS KTA50 preferred
• Scheduled maintenance of diesel engines
• Experience in the renewable energy field
• Cert IV in Management / Leadership Training (preferred)
