Grounds Maintenance Leading Hand

About the role

Service Stream's Defence division is hiring a Grounds Maintenance Leading Hand for a permanent full-time position at the Edinburgh Precinct in South Australia, supporting the Property and Asset Services contract. The role provides hands-on support to a team delivering grounds maintenance in outdoor environments, coordinating daily work, ensuring safe and efficient equipment operation and maintaining work quality.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and clear land for construction, agriculture or infrastructure projects.
• Operate plant and construction machinery safely and efficiently.
• Load, transport and handle materials and equipment.
• Perform manual labour including digging, lifting and trenching.
• Support tradespeople and crews with general site tasks.
• Check equipment, report faults or hazards, and identify utility lines and manage soil conditions.
• Set up and clean work areas to maintain site safety.
• Lead toolbox talks and promote a safe work culture.
• Coordinate daily tasks for Grounds Maintenance Operators.
• Support the TAL Supervisor with contractor coordination, compliance and reporting as required.

Required profile

• Leadership experience or ability to step into this role.
• Australian citizen able to obtain and maintain a Defence Security Clearance.
• Punctual, dependable and able to complete tasks efficiently with minimal supervision.
• Relevant licences, white card and first aid are highly regarded.

Required skills

• Safe operation of mowers, blowers, compactors and other landscaping equipment.
• Familiarity with OH&S procedures and proper use of PPE.
• Ability to lift, dig, bend and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Assisting with fencing, paving, retaining walls and irrigation systems.
