Graduate R&D Engineer

About the role

Join Puralink’s R&D team to help evolve the Ferret autonomous pipe robot. As a Graduate R&D Engineer you will work on real mechanical subsystems, turning field data into improved hardware across sanitation, energy, mining, agriculture and data‑centre applications.

Key responsibilities

• Design robust, manufacturable electromechanical components with DFM/DFA principles from concept to production.
• Develop small, high‑precision parts where fit, tolerance and repeatability are critical.
• Integrate motors, actuators, sensors, cabling and structures within constrained volumes.
• Build, instrument and test prototypes, analyse test and field data, and iterate designs rapidly.
• Collaborate closely with mechanical, electrical, firmware and manufacturing engineers.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Strong foundation in machine design, materials and tolerancing.
• Hands‑on experience through university projects, competitions, internships or personal builds.
• Data‑driven mindset: you test, measure and let evidence guide design decisions.
• Eagerness to learn quickly, accept feedback and work autonomously.

Required skills

• Proficiency with a CAD package (OnShape, SolidWorks, Inventor or Fusion 360).
