Graduate Mechanical Engineer – Maritime

About the role

BMT's Maritime Design and Engineering team, which combines BMT and AMT and brings together more than 40 years of experience in Naval Architecture, Mechanical, Electrical and Combat Systems/C4I Engineering, is looking for enthusiastic emerging Mechanical Engineers with a passion for Maritime. Recent graduates and early-career engineers (1-2 years' experience) are encouraged to apply. The work covers Australian and regional maritime programs, including new construction such as the Royal Australian Navy surface ship programs, and sustaining and upgrading existing ships.

Key responsibilities

• Perform specialist mechanical design and engineering to support the integration of equipment and systems on naval vessels.
• Provide mechanical engineering support and guidance within whole-of-ship design teams covering Naval Architecture, Electrical, Mechanical and Combat Systems integration.
• Carry out engineering projects from investigation and design concept, through OEM interaction, preliminary and detail design, to production implementation and customer acceptance.
• Represent the company professionally and technically with Defence/Navy clients, defence industry customers and OEM and system supplier communities.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Australian citizenship, because an Australian Defence Security Clearance is required due to the nature of the work; the selection process includes a pre-employment screening including a Police Records Check.
• Knowledge of designing mechanical and marine components and systems.
• Excellent written communication and interpersonal abilities, well-developed problem-solving skills, effective time management and attention to detail.
