Graduate Engineer – Roads & Highway

About the role

We are looking for a recent Civil Engineering graduate to join our Roads & Highway team in Sydney. As part of SMEC’s two‑year Graduate Development Program you will work on major road, highway and transport infrastructure projects alongside experienced engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Support the delivery of infrastructure projects, contributing to design, analysis and documentation under senior guidance.
• Assist with engineering design development, including preparation of drawings, 3D models and technical documentation.
• Perform engineering calculations and analysis for roads, drainage and structural elements.
• Participate in site visits and inspections to see designs implemented on‑site.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate design inputs and meet project milestones.
• Learn and apply industry standards, tools and best practices through structured development and on‑the‑job experience.

Required profile

• Motivated Civil Engineering graduate who enjoys problem‑solving and teamwork.
• Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
• Exposure to design tools such as AutoCAD or Civil 3D (experience with 12D is a plus).
