Graduate Electrical Engineer – Maritime and Defence

About the role

BMT's Maritime Design and Engineering team, which combines BMT and AMT and brings together more than 40 years of experience in Naval Architecture, Mechanical, Electrical and Combat Systems/C4I engineering, is looking for Electrical Engineers graduating in 2026 or already graduated. The role sits in the Melbourne-based engineering office and supports Australian and regional maritime programmes, including new construction and upgrades of Royal Australian Navy ships.

Key responsibilities

• Perform specialist electrical design and engineering to integrate equipment and systems on naval vessels.
• Provide electrical engineering support and guidance within a whole-of-ship design team covering Naval Architecture, Electrical, Mechanical and Combat Systems integration.
• Carry out engineering investigations, design concepts and liaison with Defence Material Suppliers, then move through preliminary and detail design, production implementation and customer acceptance.
• Represent the company professionally and technically for Defence/Navy clients, other defence industry customers and defence material and systems suppliers.

Required profile

• Degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Australian citizenship, because the work requires an Australian Defence Security Clearance; the selection process includes a police records check.
• Excellent written communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Well-developed problem diagnosis and solving skills.
• Effective time management, strong attention to detail and the drive to develop technical capabilities in a multi-discipline environment.
