Graduate Civil Engineer – Rail & Metro

About the role

Join SMEC’s Rail & Metro team in Melbourne as a Graduate Civil Engineer. You’ll be part of a two‑year Graduate Development Program, gaining hands‑on experience on major rail and metro infrastructure projects while receiving mentoring and structured learning.

Key responsibilities

• Support design development, including drawings, models and technical documentation.
• Assist with engineering calculations and analysis for roads, drainage and structures under senior guidance.
• Participate in site visits and inspections to understand implementation of designs.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate design inputs and meet project milestones.
• Contribute to documentation and reporting throughout project delivery.

Required profile

• Recent graduate with a degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
• Motivation to solve problems and work on real‑world infrastructure projects.

Required skills

• Experience with AutoCAD.
• Experience with Civil 3D (or similar design tools).
• Familiarity with 12D or comparable civil design software (advantageous).
