Gardener - Handyperson

About the role

Grandis Primary School in Banksia Grove, Western Australia, is recruiting a Gardener-Handyperson for a permanent part-time position of 0.6 FTE, starting as soon as possible. The role keeps the school grounds safe and tidy so that students and staff have a good external learning environment.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain turf areas, garden beds, shrubs, trees and soft landscaping
• Maintain hard landscaping such as courts and paving, mark sports areas and carry out minor repairs in line with departmental policies
• Keep gardening facilities, equipment, tools and machinery clean and serviceable, report faults promptly and follow safe work practices
• Help develop safe work procedures and conduct risk assessments as needed
• Comply with Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) legislation and manage hazardous substances, including keeping safety records

Required profile

• Valid Working With Children Check
• Consent to a nationally coordinated criminal history check and a current screening clearance number from the Department of Education's Screening Unit
• Australian or New Zealand citizenship, permanent residency or a valid visa with work rights for the term of the appointment
• One-page cover explaining how your skills match the selection criteria: communication and interpersonal skills, grounds and garden maintenance including turf, minor servicing of gardening equipment and minor repairs, and knowledge of gardening methods and safe use and storage of equipment, materials and chemicals
