Full Stack Developer (Node.js, React)
3M Consultancy · Melbourne
Job description
About the role
3M Consultancy is looking for a Full Stack Developer in Melbourne, Australia, to join its early-stage startup. The role involves building and scaling a Node.js backend and a React-based frontend while working closely with the founders and the early team. Experience at a software vendor (SaaS, PaaS or product company) and with microservice or service-oriented systems is required; the current system is not strictly microservice-oriented, but such experience helps shape API design, service boundaries and scalability.
Key responsibilities
- Build, maintain and iterate on the core application across the Node.js backend and React frontend.
- Develop new features end-to-end, from technical design through implementation, testing, deployment and ongoing improvement.
- Apply experience from microservice or distributed-system environments to clean system design, well-defined interfaces and maintainable service boundaries.
- Partner with founders and product stakeholders to define requirements and shape user-facing functionality.
- Take part in system design discussions, architecture decisions and long-term technical planning.
- Collaborate on integrations and workflows involving asynchronous processing, data movement or transformations.
- Help establish early engineering processes, coding standards and development best practices.
- Experiment, prototype and validate concepts quickly.
Required profile
- 3+ years of professional software development experience (flexible depending on candidate strength).
- Experience working at a software vendor or product-based company.
- Prior experience building or working within service-oriented or microservice-based systems, with an understanding of API design and system boundaries.
- Ability and willingness to work as a full-stack generalist across frontend, backend and system design.
- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
- Willingness to work in a fast-moving, ambiguous early-stage startup environment.
Required skills
- Strong JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js and modern frontend frameworks (React preferred).
- Cloud environments (AWS preferred).
- Nice to have: event-driven systems, message queues, asynchronous workflows, data engineering tools (AWS Glue, AWS AppFlow, Apache Kafka), data warehouses (Redshift, Snowflake, BigQuery), CI/CD, observability, and previous early-stage startup experience.
