Freelance Senior Graphic Designers

About the role

Aquent is recruiting freelance senior graphic designers for a leading Australian publishing house that makes books, craft DIY kits, coloring books, jigsaw puzzles and journals. The role is temporary and full-time, contractor-based, and focuses on shaping the visual identity and market presence of the brand's products, from packaging to editorial content.

Key responsibilities

• Senior Packaging Designer: elevate existing product lines across kids, toys, craft and games; design packaging that stands out on retail shelves using colour, hierarchy and messaging; use AI tools for rapid concept generation and image exploration.
• Senior Creative / Conceptual Designer: act as a big-picture thinker, translate global trends into commercially viable product ranges, drive ideas from ideation through development with AI and trend research, and build strong visual storytelling.
• Trend-Led / Editorial Designer: apply a contemporary, youthful aesthetic to journals, books, stationery and lifestyle items, modernise classic aesthetics with vibrant colours and fresh typography while keeping the brand's core identity.

Required profile

• Compelling portfolio showing strong typography, colour and a clear passion for design.
• Senior-level graphic design experience focused on packaging design, creative/conceptual design or trend-led editorial design.
• Proven ability to turn creative concepts into market-ready designs, with a strong grasp of visual hierarchy, composition and brand identity.
• Nice to have: extensive experience with major retail clients or products for large retail chains (packaging).
