Food Service Assistant

About the role

Mercy Health is looking for a Food Service Assistant for its facility at Mercy Place, Ave Maria in Shepparton. This is a casual position where you help create positive moments each day by supporting residents with meals, following food safety rules and working with the kitchen team.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in preparing and serving meals according to dietary requirements and resident preferences
• Follow food safety protocols to ensure hygiene and prevent contamination
• Clean and maintain kitchen and dining areas
• Engage with residents during mealtime, providing companionship and support
• Work with dietitians to accommodate special dietary needs
• Take part in food safety and compliance training
• Collaborate with chefs and other kitchen staff
• Gather resident feedback on meal quality and preferences

Required profile

• Resilient, compassionate and committed to patient-centred care
• Previous food service or kitchen experience, especially in aged care, is desirable
• Understanding of nutritional requirements and dietary restrictions common in aged care
• Good verbal communication and teamwork skills
• Desirable: food handling certification or food safety training

Required skills

• Current police record check
• Proof of current influenza vaccination and other vaccinations consistent with public health orders
