Fire Systems Technician (Permanent)

About the role

Downer is seeking a Fire Systems Technician to join its permanent workforce at Lavarack Barracks in Townsville. The role supports the Property and Asset Services contract for the Australian Defence Force, delivering high‑quality fire system maintenance and rapid response to faults.

Key responsibilities

• Respond to corrective maintenance work orders and unplanned fire system faults within contract‑specified response times.
• Conduct root‑cause analysis and diagnosis using manuals, standards and asset history.
• Perform rectification works, including repair or replacement of faulty fire system components.
• Implement make‑safe or temporary repairs when required and escalate major component replacements.
• Verify and test corrective maintenance works to ensure compliance with standards and Defence policies.

Required profile

• Certificate III in Fire Systems Testing and Inspection.
• Fire Protection Accreditation (FPAA) and QBCC Fire Protection Licence (QLD).
• Australian citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Defence Security Clearance.
• Post‑trade experience in fire systems fault diagnosis, corrective maintenance and repair.
• Proven ability to conduct root‑cause analysis, fault finding and compliance testing.
• Experience responding to unplanned or reactive work orders within required response times.
• Strong work ethic, positive attitude and commitment to delivering high‑quality outcomes.
