Financial Controller

About the role

Defiant Digital is a fast‑growing performance‑driven digital agency seeking a Financial Controller to own the full financial, compliance and contract management function. You will work closely with the CEO and leadership team to build the financial infrastructure needed for a $20M+ agency.

Key responsibilities

• Full P&L ownership, monthly/quarterly/annual reporting and cash‑flow forecasting.
• Revenue recognition, work‑in‑progress tracking, billing oversight and tax compliance (business and GST/BAS).
• Payroll, superannuation, statutory obligations and audit readiness.
• Drafting, reviewing and negotiating client agreements, supplier contracts, MSAs, SOWs and lease agreements.
• Managing insurance portfolio, dispute resolution and IP protection.
• Creating financial dashboards, KPI reporting and project‑level profitability tracking.
• Designing bonus and incentive plans, headcount planning and capacity modelling.
• Three‑year financial modelling, growth planning and advising on commercial decisions.

Required profile

• 5–10 years of progressive finance experience, preferably within an agency, media company or ad‑tech business.
• Relevant qualification such as CA or CPA.
• Comfortable operating as a solo financial operator and building the finance function from scratch.
• Strong working knowledge of contract law and ability to negotiate with legal counsel.
