Financial Accountant - Payroll, Cash and General Ledger

About the role

Thales Australia is looking for a Financial Accountant to join its corporate team, which acts as a central hub for shared services such as finance, legal, HR and procurement. The role owns payroll accounting, cash accounting and general ledger activities, partnering with Payroll, Treasury and Finance teams and business stakeholders to keep financial records accurate, controlled and compliant.

Key responsibilities

• Manage payroll accounting, journals, accruals, provisions and reconciliations
• Perform bank reconciliations and support treasury and cash management activities
• Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and investigate variances or discrepancies
• Prepare and review month-end journals, including accruals, prepayments and adjustments
• Complete balance sheet reconciliations and support period-end close activities
• Support internal and external audits and strengthen financial controls
• Contribute to finance transformation, automation and process improvement initiatives

Required profile

• Degree qualified in Accounting, Commerce, Finance or a related discipline
• CPA or CA qualified (or nearing completion)
• Solid experience in financial accounting or financial control
• Experience with complex journals, reconciliations and month-end close processes
• Australian citizenship and eligibility to obtain and maintain a Baseline Defence security clearance; pre-employment police and medical checks are required before an offer

Required skills

• Strong understanding of payroll accounting, cash accounting and general ledger management
• Hands-on experience with Oracle or similar ERP systems
• Strong Excel, analytical and problem-solving skills
