Financial Accountant

About the role

Flourish Australia, a community mental health organisation, is looking for an experienced Financial Accountant to join its finance team. The role supports the Financial Controller in producing high-quality external financial reports, maintaining internal controls and governance up to the trial balance, and building positive relationships across the finance team and with business partners. It is full-time (76 hours per fortnight, Monday to Friday), based at the Support Hub in Sydney Olympic Park with hybrid work from home.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Financial Controller with the preparation of high-quality financial reports.
• Manage accounting processes including fixed assets, accruals/provisions, prepayments, expenditure allocations and revenue recognition.
• Manage month-end reconciliations and ensure timing differences are acted on in a timely way.
• Maintain the fixed assets register.
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards, practices and statutory obligations when recording transactions.
• Help maintain an effective system of internal control through oversight of key controls.
• Assist with financial year-end requirements and other projects as directed.

Required profile

• Chartered Accountant (CA) or Certified Practising Accountant (CPA) qualification.
• 2-4 years' experience in a financial accounting role, ideally as an Assistant Accountant.
• Sound knowledge of accounting standards and practices.
• Attention to detail, good time management and analytical skills.
• Ability to work autonomously and in a team.
• Experience with financial systems and excellent Excel proficiency.
• Desirable: personal lived experience of a mental health challenge.
