Financial Accountant

About the role

Universal Store is seeking a Financial Accountant to ensure the accuracy, integrity and reliability of its financial reporting and statutory obligations. Reporting to the Group Financial Accounting & Tax Manager, you will support month‑end close, statutory compliance and contribute to finance process improvements in a fast‑paced, multi‑site retail environment.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare weekly and monthly financial reports to aid timely business decisions.
• Support month‑end close activities, including journal entries, accruals and balance‑sheet reconciliations.
• Manage GST, FBT and income‑tax compliance, including returns and reconciliations.
• Maintain fixed‑asset registers and oversee capital‑expenditure processes.
• Monitor operating expenses and ensure strong financial governance.
• Ensure accurate financial treatment of inventory movements and stock balances.
• Assist with statutory reporting, audit requirements, budgeting and variance analysis.
• Support external audit processes and uphold internal controls.

Required profile

• CA or CPA qualified, or currently completing a relevant accounting degree.
• Experience in a Financial Accountant, Assistant Accountant or similar role.
• Strong understanding of financial reporting, compliance and internal controls.
• Excellent analytical ability with high attention to detail.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
• Collaborative working style with cross‑functional engagement.
