Finance Officer (NV1) – Canberra

About the role

This role offers the chance to contribute to a high‑performing federal government program by providing expert financial management, analysis and advice. You will play a key role in ensuring compliance, supporting decision‑making and strengthening financial performance across a complex operating environment.

Key responsibilities

• Manage financial activities in line with Commonwealth frameworks and policies.
• Provide accurate, timely financial reporting and analysis.
• Support budgeting, forecasting and financial planning processes.
• Advise stakeholders on financial risks, compliance and performance.
• Contribute to continuous improvement and high‑quality financial governance.
• Engage collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, including Defence where required.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Accounting, Commerce or Business, or 5+ years Commonwealth financial management experience.
• Experience in Defence financial management and reporting.
• Proven ability to engage strategically with stakeholders.
• Team leadership and staff development experience.
• Strong communication skills and a proactive, solutions‑focused approach.
