Fellow - Allergy, Asthma and Clinical Immunology (2027)

About the role

Bayside Health, a public health service covering metropolitan Melbourne and surrounding areas, offers a 12-month fellowship in Asthma & Allergy at The Alfred starting in February 2027. The role is usually undertaken as part of respiratory or allergy training and focuses on building clinical expertise in difficult asthma and allergic disease, with a substantial research component.

Key responsibilities

• Develop expertise in difficult asthma, including systematic assessment, evidence-based complex therapies such as biologics, and management of comorbidities such as upper airway disease, vocal cord dysfunction and dysfunctional breathing.
• Perform endoscopy of the upper airway for nasal polyposis and vocal cord dysfunction, typically after mannitol or odour provocation.
• Cover allergic disease, including aero-allergy, depending on the appointee.
• Participate in five clinical sessions per week (three to four clinics and several procedures).
• Lead and contribute to multiple research publications on clinical aspects of difficult asthma, vocal cord dysfunction and biologics for asthma and nasal polyposis.
• Assist in delivering educational courses run through the service and take part in departmental Respiratory Medicine education sessions.

Required profile

• A desire to expand skills in asthma and allergy.
• High level of clinical competence and a demonstrable track record in clinical research.
• Ability to work in, and lead, teams.
• Evidence of appropriate research skills commensurate with the opportunity.
