Estimator - Toowoomba

About the role

Hutchies is looking for an experienced Estimator to join its Toowoomba office on a full-time permanent basis. The role sits within a supportive, collaborative team and offers exposure to a wide variety of projects across Queensland and regional Australia, including residential housing, education, health infrastructure, industrial and defence, and commercial and community work.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the preparation and submission of tenders with the project manager and design managers
• Estimate project quantities and costs for major tenders in a timely, cost-effective way
• Develop scopes of works for subcontractors and carry out detailed trade price reviews
• Monitor competitive prices, new techniques and cost trends
• Respond to post-tender clarifications
• Supervise and develop support staff such as junior estimators, cadets, submission manager and pre-construction manager
• Provide technical input on variations and supply clear documentation and BOQs at contract start, helping allocate the Bill of Quantities and supporting contractors' financial administration

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in the relevant field
• 4-5 years' experience in a similar role, or extensive long-term trade experience
• Strong attention to detail, organisational and analytical skills, and excellent written and verbal communication
• Knowledge of market conditions, construction techniques and industry standards
• Team player with initiative and accountability, and strong stakeholder relationships

• Cost X and Microsoft suite
