Engineering Team Lead - Experience Platform
neara · Sydney
Job description
About the role
Neara uses machine learning to build physics-enabled digital twins of electricity grids across four continents, helping utilities understand risks and optimise investments. It is looking for an experienced Tech Lead Manager to lead its Experience Platform, taking technical ownership of the platform's usability, performance and visual appeal on desktop and mobile. The role is people-first leadership with strong technical depth, splitting time between leading the team and driving delivery while staying hands-on with system design.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and grow a high-performing engineering team, supporting technical development and career progression.
- Own delivery for the team's domain: set goals, define milestones and ensure projects ship reliably and sustainably.
- Own workflows and development practices that balance speed, quality and long-term maintainability.
- Break down complex technical challenges into achievable plans and foster collaboration with Product, Design, Customer Success and Sales.
- Partner with other Tech Lead Managers to share best practices, tooling and long-term platform direction.
- Contribute to system design and architectural decisions, and write and review production-quality code.
- Shape the client and product UX end to end, including UI, design system, rendering and interaction performance, and 3D visualisation of large networks.
- Build APIs, extension points and shared components that other teams can rely on.
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Technical people-leader who has owned delivery end to end and led, mentored and grew engineers at multiple levels.
- Comfortable working across engineering and product, with a strong partnership to Product focused on customer outcomes.
- Track record of architecting and shipping complex, production-grade systems.
- Experience building or leading dense, stateful expert-user tools such as CAD, design tools, GIS or data visualisation tools.
Required skills
- Hands-on work with Dart, JavaScript, Flutter, Rust and WebGL for rendering and interacting with large-scale 3D models and dashboards.
- UI, design systems, performance and 3D rendering, including scaling user experiences to millions of objects.
- Nice to have: owning a design system, component library or platform SDK; graphics, WebGL/GPU work or large 3D scene rendering; consumer product background; exposure to geospatial systems, utilities, energy, simulation or physics-based platforms; engineering background in mechanics, civil or electrical engineering.
What we offer
- Competitive salary and meaningful ESOP.
- Fully flexible working arrangements with a well-stocked office in Redfern.
- Regular office events.
Applicants must have current, unrestricted working rights; visa sponsorship is not offered. No agencies or third-party recruiters.
