Engineering Officer - Badu Island

About the role

The Torres Strait Island Regional Council is looking for a motivated and reliable Engineering Officer to join its Engineering Services team on Badu Island. The role is full-time and permanent, based on Division 5, and involves a hands-on contribution to maintaining and improving community infrastructure that supports the health, safety and wellbeing of the region.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and repair community infrastructure such as roads, parks, stormwater systems, marine facilities and public amenities.
• Assist in operating and maintaining water supply and wastewater treatment systems.
• Support landfill and waste collection operations in line with environmental guidelines.
• Inspect airports and seaports and carry out maintenance in accordance with regulations.
• Operate plant, machinery, tools and equipment safely and effectively.
• Monitor infrastructure conditions and report defects promptly, and respond to maintenance issues and breakdowns to minimise service disruption.

Required profile

• A current Class C, Type Provisional or higher Queensland driver's licence (open) that is not expired.
• Practical experience in civil works, maintenance or infrastructure services (desirable).
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with good communication skills and reliability.
• Commitment to workplace health and safety standards.

Required skills

• Ability to operate plant and equipment safely (tickets or licences highly regarded).
• Civil works and infrastructure maintenance experience.
