Engineer – Mechanical/Auxiliary Systems

About the role

The acquisition of nuclear‑powered submarines is a historic endeavour for Australia. As an Engineer in the Platforms Systems Branch, you will help shape the nation’s submarine capability and ensure its safe, secure delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Develop methodologies and processes to understand, assure and certify platform system aspects of Australia’s nuclear submarine capability.
• Collaborate with overseas partners, industry, and regulators to apply best engineering practices and build ASA’s technical capabilities.
• Prepare high‑quality reports, briefs, publications and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
• Recommend actions on approvals and certifications, especially when deviations from designs or specifications arise.
• Participate in trilateral meetings and workshops, occasionally outside standard Australian working hours.
• Mentor and coach less‑experienced team members and contribute actively to team activities.
• Support additional duties as required, including potential international placements in the US or UK.

• Proven capability to build and sustain positive relationships across diverse stakeholder groups.
• Willingness to work predominantly onsite and access sensitive IT systems.
• Flexibility to adapt working arrangements to individual circumstances where possible.
• Leadership potential and a commitment to mentoring junior staff.
