Emergency & Critical Care Veterinary Nurse (Part‑time)

About the role

The Emergency & Critical Care Veterinary Nurse will work in a fast‑paced, 24‑hour referral hospital delivering life‑saving care to critically ill and injured patients.

Key responsibilities

• Perform rapid patient assessment, triage and ongoing monitoring of emergency and critical care cases.
• Deliver advanced nursing care, including administration of blood products, CRIs, advanced analgesia, and emergency medications.
• Assist with emergency procedures such as CPR, intubation, thoracocentesis, central line placement, mechanical ventilation and advanced patient monitoring.
• Manage emergency admissions, patient stabilisation and coordinate critical patient workflows.
• Maintain accurate medical records and uphold high standards of clinical nursing practice.

Required profile

• Qualified Veterinary Nurse (Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing or equivalent).
• Previous experience in Emergency & Critical Care or referral hospital nursing.
• Strong patient assessment, monitoring and clinical reasoning abilities.
• Confidence working in emergency situations and prioritising competing caseloads.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills within a multidisciplinary environment.

Required skills

• Advanced analgesia protocols and emergency medication delivery.
• CPR, intubation, thoracocentesis, central line placement, mechanical ventilation.
• Advanced patient monitoring and critical patient management.
