Electrical Power Systems Engineer

About the role

This brand‑new position is for an Electrical Power Systems (EPS) Engineer who will develop and implement electrical power system designs for key Australian hydropower projects within ANDRITZ’s Hydropower division.

Key responsibilities

• Design, review, implement, maintain and improve electrical equipment and systems for large hydro and grid solutions projects.
• Prepare and evaluate tender and construction packages, providing guidance on electrical and instrumentation drawings, installation specifications and supporting documentation.
• Perform detailed calculations for manufacturing, construction and installation, ensuring compliance with safety standards and specifications.
• Design and commission industrial MV and LV power systems, including electrical room layout, equipment specifications, motor control, grounding, cable and raceway sizing.
• Prepare technical drawings and specifications using AutoCAD and ensure installations meet safety, standards and customer requirements.
• Coordinate manufacturing, construction, installation, maintenance, documentation and testing activities to meet codes and customer requirements.
• Communicate with suppliers, obtain product information, and conduct supplier audits as needed.
• Advise on operation and maintenance to optimise power system utilisation and meet customer energy demands.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Proven ability to develop schematic drawings, electrical layouts, technical specifications and perform electrical calculations.
• Strong knowledge of electrical arrangement design principles and power generation, transmission, transformation and distribution systems.
• Familiarity with relevant standards and regulations (AS/NZS, IEEE, IEC, SPLN, PUIL).

Required skills

• AutoCAD (2D & 3D, including AutoCAD 2009).
• EPLAN.
• Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Experience with BIM tools for integrated design workflows (highly desirable).
• Electrical analysis software for system studies and design validation.
