Electrical Maintainer – Rail (Weipa, Australia)

About the role

Rio Tinto is seeking an Electrical Maintainer to join its Rail team in Weipa. You will be responsible for maintaining the reliability of rolling stock, rail infrastructure, signalling and control systems, ensuring safe and efficient operations across the site.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain locomotives, wagons, track maintenance equipment and associated electrical systems according to scheduled plans.
• Perform fault finding, diagnostics and repairs to minimise downtime.
• Carry out inspections and preventative maintenance to Rio Tinto and OEM standards.
• Support the upkeep of rail signalling and control systems.
• Record maintenance activities and work history in SAP and other site systems.
• Complete work management tasks and close‑out activities following site procedures.
• Contribute to continuous‑improvement initiatives that boost reliability, safety and cost performance.
• Participate in training, share knowledge and uphold strong safety and environmental standards.

Required profile

• Strong commitment to personal and team safety.
• Queensland A Grade Electrical Licence.
• Current Australian Manual C Class Driver’s Licence.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and technical documentation.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills.
• Capacity to work independently and adapt to changing priorities.
• Previous rail industry experience, preferably with rolling stock, signalling or rail infrastructure maintenance.

Required skills

• Fault finding and diagnostic troubleshooting.
• Reading electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Use of SAP maintenance system for record keeping.
