Electrical Design Engineer – Grid & Substations

About the role

RSGx Engineering is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to develop grid connection, distribution and substation designs for data centre and critical infrastructure projects across Australia’s east coast. You will work from concept through detailed design, collaborating with internal teams, clients and network service providers.

Key responsibilities

• Develop electrical designs for LV, MV and HV distribution systems, transformers, switchgear and protection equipment.
• Create substation layouts, single‑line diagrams, schematics, cable schedules and equipment specifications.
• Review and refine design calculations, construction/shop drawings and support constructability assessments.
• Ensure all designs comply with Australian Standards, network requirements and project‑specific technical criteria.

Required profile

• Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.
• Proven experience in electrical design for data centres, critical infrastructure or major utility projects.
• Strong understanding of DNSP/NSP connection processes and high‑availability power systems.

Required skills

• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit or PowerCAD (or equivalent electrical design platforms).
• Experience with HV switchgear, transformers, protection, earthing and substation systems.
• Ability to develop and interpret single‑line diagrams, schematics and detailed electrical documentation.
• Knowledge of relevant Australian Standards and electrical industry requirements.
