Economic Crime Risk Assurance Lead

About the role

The Economic Crime Risk Assurance Lead shapes end-to-end assurance across Financial Crime, Scams and Fraud, guiding strategy, planning and delivery. The role sits in the Economic Crime Risk team, which supports the bank's domestic and international operations and protects the integrity of the bank, its customers and the community. It also partners across the Group on coordinated assurance for major regulatory reforms, giving senior stakeholders and regulators confidence in outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Shape the ECR assurance strategy, priorities and annual plan across AML/CTF, the Scam Prevention Framework and broader Economic Crime Risk obligations.
• Provide second-line review and challenge of Risk and Control Self-Assessments, identifying material risks and control weaknesses.
• Lead assurance reviews of key financial crime and scams controls, covering design, operating effectiveness and sustainability.
• Partner across the Group on coordinated assurance over enterprise-wide regulatory reform programs, including AML/CTF Reform and the Scam Prevention Framework.
• Lead the transition to a data-enabled assurance model, using analytics and automation to improve coverage, insight and efficiency.
• Report insights and assurance opinions to the ECR Leadership Team, Economic Crime Risk Committees and governance forums.
• Build and develop a high-performing assurance team, strengthening capability in risk-based assurance, control testing and data analytics.

Required profile

• Extensive experience leading assurance, risk oversight, audit or controls functions in a large, complex and highly regulated organisation.
• Deep understanding of Fraud, Scams and Financial Crime compliance, including AML/CTF obligations, the Scams Prevention Framework and controls design and effectiveness.
• Ability to influence and engage senior stakeholders and provide credible challenge on risk and control matters.
• Experience independently reviewing and challenging risk and control environments, including RCSA, controls testing and remediation.
• Experience delivering assurance over large-scale regulatory reform, remediation or transformation programs.
• Experience developing and embedding data-enabled assurance practices.
