Ecommerce Manager - Shopify D2C

About the role

An established Melbourne homewares business, part of a family-owned group, is hiring its first dedicated ecommerce hire. It already sells through retail partners and its own online stores and now wants to build a much stronger direct-to-consumer business. You will report to the CEO, with an existing marketing team and external development support, and the role is Melbourne-based with four days in the office and one day working remotely.

Key responsibilities

• Own the Australian Shopify trading calendar, from product launches and seasonal ranges to promotions, tracking revenue, conversion and average order value.
• Improve merchandising across homepages, collections, search and product pages to grow full-price sales.
• Develop email campaigns and automated customer journeys to bring customers back and build repeat revenue.
• Make bigger-ticket products easier to buy online, covering product content, sampling, delivery and returns.
• Lead improvements to conversion, SEO, site speed and customer experience, coordinating with marketing so paid acquisition and onsite activity work together.
• Set the ecommerce roadmap, manage development partners, apps and integrations, and build and track business cases for investment.
• Support the New Zealand store in adopting the Australian approach and steward the group's trade websites.

Required profile

• Practical experience trading a Shopify D2C business, confident enough to make changes yourself and brief developers when needed.
• Evidence of growing online sales through better merchandising, conversion and retention.
• Experience building ecommerce capability, such as introducing reporting, improving processes or developing a new channel.
• Commercial judgement: able to explain what needs investment, why it matters and how results will be measured.
• Ideally experience in homewares, furniture or another category where considered purchases, freight and returns matter.
