Drill & Blast Engineer – Open Pit Mining

About the role

MACA is seeking a Drill & Blast Engineer to support the Gruyere Gold Project, an open‑pit operation in Western Australia. Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, you will contribute to mine scheduling, planning, and the execution of safe, efficient blast programs.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and oversee drill and blast designs, loading plans, initiation sequences, and QA/QC processes.
• Conduct field inspections and audits of drilling and charging activities to ensure compliance with design and safety standards.
• Monitor blast performance, including fragmentation, vibration, muck‑pile shape, and dig‑ability.
• Provide on‑ground blast execution support, including tie‑ins, clearance management, and vibration monitoring.
• Review drilling performance, troubleshoot issues, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
• Liaise with Mine Planning, Survey, Operations, and Blast Crews to coordinate activities.
• Prepare daily reports, reconciliations, compliance documentation, and post‑blast reviews.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years experience in hard‑rock mining drill and blast operations.
• Strong understanding of open‑pit drill and blast processes and QA/QC procedures.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Commitment to safety leadership and continuous improvement.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑paced mining environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency in blast design using Vulcan.
• Experience with ShotPlus software.
• Working knowledge of BlastLogic systems.
