Dispatch Officer

About the role

We are looking for an organised, safety‑focused Dispatch Officer to manage the daily loading, scheduling and outbound distribution of metal products such as steel beams, sheets and custom cut lengths. The role sits at the hub between the warehouse floor, transport contractors and the sales team, ensuring every order leaves the site securely and on time.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate daily dispatch schedules for company drivers and third‑party carriers, preparing dockets, manifests and bill of lading paperwork.
• Optimise truck loads for weight distribution, route efficiency and cost‑effective freight utilisation.
• Conduct quality control checks on finished metal orders, verifying quantities, dimensions, grades and finishes.
• Direct forklift and crane operators loading flatbeds, semi‑trailers and heavy vehicles, ensuring proper bundling, banding and strapping.
• Monitor staging areas, label finished goods and process returned or rejected materials promptly.
• Enforce WHS and Chain of Responsibility regulations, perform pre‑load risk assessments and check axle weight limits.
• Maintain ERP records (Dynamics AX, SAP, Oracle), update order status and communicate any dispatch issues to sales and customer service.
• Liaise with transport carriers on delivery queries, ETA updates and freight claims.

Required profile

• Previous experience in transport coordination or logistics within heavy industry, metal distribution or manufacturing.
• Current High‑Risk Work Licence for forklift operation; experience with heavy forklifts or overhead gantry cranes is a strong advantage.
• Familiarity with enterprise inventory/ERP systems and logistics software.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality standards.
