Director, Sanctions Advisory - Institutional COE

About the role

The Director, Sanctions Advisory – Institutional COE will lead the advisory and oversight function for ANZ's sanctions compliance within the Institutional division. Reporting to the Head of Financial Crime & Fraud COE, the role ensures that sanctions controls are embedded across all business units, including offshore locations, and operate within the bank's risk appetite.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver financial crime and fraud risk management activities focused on sanctions across processes, products and customer journeys.
• Translate sanctions and financial crime requirements into clear business outcomes and value.
• Apply Group Risk policies, standards and regulatory obligations throughout the Institutional division.
• Embed sanctions requirements into business processes in a practical, efficient and customer‑focused manner.
• Support impact assessments and the implementation of regulatory, policy and risk‑standard changes.
• Conduct risk assessments, including control effectiveness and residual risk analysis.
• Partner with business teams to design, uplift and embed effective financial crime and fraud controls.
• Identify control gaps and emerging sanctions risks, and drive remediation.

Required profile

• Proven leadership experience in a senior compliance or financial‑crime role.
• Extensive knowledge of sanctions regulations and the broader financial‑crime risk landscape.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct risk assessments and influence business units.
• Experience working within a large banking institution and collaborating with offshore teams.
