Director, Regulatory Operations

About the role

The Essential Services Commission, Victoria's independent economic regulator, is recruiting a Director, Regulatory Operations for its Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) division. Reporting to the Executive Director, VEU, you will lead the Regulatory Operations branch and oversee accreditation, certificate administration, compliance, audit investigations and enforcement. As part of the division's executive leadership team, you will lead high-performing teams, shape strategic priorities and work with government, industry and other stakeholders. This is a fixed-term two-year position based in Melbourne with hybrid work.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the Regulatory Operations branch to deliver high performance, staff engagement and alignment with Victorian Public Service values
• Oversee the administration of the VEU program, including accreditation, certificate registration and surrender, compliance, engagement, audit and enforcement
• Embed risk-based approaches across these functions
• Drive operational improvements to make regulatory processes and systems more efficient, timely and effective
• Manage operational risks, resources and competing priorities while supporting legislative and scheme reforms
• Provide strategic advice to the Executive Director and maintain relationships with government, industry and other stakeholders

Required profile

• An accomplished regulatory leader with sound judgement and strong expertise in compliance and enforcement
• A proven ability to lead complex operations through change
