Director, Private Business Tax

About the role

PwC is seeking a Director to join its Private Business Tax team in Australia. The role involves providing personalised tax planning and compliance services to high‑net‑worth individuals and privately‑owned businesses, helping them navigate complex tax regulations and optimise their tax positions.

Key responsibilities

• Manage client engagements and build trusted relationships with private business owners and key stakeholders.
• Lead tax compliance, planning and advisory services for large client groups across trusts, companies, partnerships and individuals.
• Oversee tax return preparation and review, ensuring accuracy, quality and compliance.
• Advise on tax‑efficient strategies, including succession planning, M&A, and restructurings.
• Support clients through ATO reviews or audit programmes and identify tax risks.
• Mentor junior staff and foster a collaborative, high‑performance team environment.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in Australian business/private client tax, including complex compliance and advisory engagements.
• Proven ability to manage and grow relationships with private business owners, family groups and stakeholders.
• Experience across multiple industries (financial services, tech, manufacturing, consumer, retail) and all business lifecycle stages.
• Commercial mindset with a track record of delivering practical, high‑quality solutions.

Required skills

• Tax compliance and planning expertise.
• Knowledge of corporate tax issues, consolidation, restructuring, M&A and ATO engagements.
• Ability to analyse complex financial data and tax issues.
