Director of Social Work Field Education

About the role

The University of Melbourne's Department of Social Work, in the School of Health Sciences, is recruiting a Director of Social Work Field Education. You will lead field education across the accredited Master of Social Work, designing transformative placement experiences with students, educators and community organisations, and building a distinctive research program. The role sits in the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for all field education activities within the Master of Social Work program.
• Design, deliver and continuously improve the field education curriculum and subjects aligned with accreditation requirements.
• Oversee diverse, high-quality student placements, ensuring excellent supervision, learning outcomes and risk management.
• Lead, mentor and develop the field education team, fostering an inclusive, collaborative culture.
• Build and sustain partnerships, research projects and sector initiatives that enhance social work education nationally.

Required profile

• PhD in social work or a cognate discipline and an AASW-eligible social work qualification.
• At least five years of professional social work practice experience across relevant fields or settings.
• Leadership of academic or professional teams, with a track record of high-quality field education.
• Research or scholarship in field education with an emerging or established national profile.
• Current valid work rights in Australia; visa sponsorship is not available.
• A Working with Children Check is required.

• Salary of Level C ($152,695 to $176,065) or Level D ($183,254 to $202,556) per year, plus 17% superannuation.
