Director of Immunisation Research and Surveillance

About the role

The Director of the Australian National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance (NCIRS) provides scientific, strategic, financial and operational leadership for the Centre. This senior position guides national and international research, surveillance and policy advice on vaccine‑preventable diseases.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of NCIRS strategic objectives, ensuring high‑impact research, surveillance and policy support.
• Foster and maintain strategic relationships with government agencies, funding bodies, universities and international organisations.
• Oversee a multidisciplinary team of over 120 staff, driving organisational performance and sustainability.
• Represent NCIRS in national and international engagements, including on‑call duties and advisory activities.

Required profile

• Eligibility for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist (e.g., public health, physician or paediatric specialist) or equivalent overseas trained specialist pathway.
• Extensive public health, clinical and research expertise in vaccine evaluation, deployment and control of vaccine‑preventable diseases.
• Proven leadership of multidisciplinary teams delivering complex evidence‑based public health advice.
• Strong communication, stakeholder management and strategic operational leadership skills.
