Director – Emergency Department

About the role

The Director – Emergency Department provides senior clinical and strategic leadership for the Emergency Department at Launceston General Hospital. Working closely with nursing, medical and allied health leaders, you will ensure safe, timely and patient‑centred emergency care for the regional community.

Key responsibilities

• Lead clinical service delivery, patient flow and workforce planning across the Emergency Department.
• Drive clinical governance, safety, quality and performance improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate with medical, nursing, allied health, Ambulance Tasmania and community services to optimise care pathways.
• Develop and implement strategic plans that align with hospital and state health objectives.
• Ensure compliance with Medical Board of Australia registration requirements and relevant legislation.

Required profile

• Registration, or eligibility for registration, with the Medical Board of Australia in Emergency Medicine.
• Contemporary senior medical experience in Emergency Medicine within a complex acute setting.
• Advanced clinical judgement and decision‑making skills.
• Proven leadership, communication and collaboration abilities.
• Capability to lead service delivery, workforce planning, clinical governance, safety, quality and performance improvement.

• Fixed‑term, full‑time position (76 hours per fortnight) for three years.
• Salary range $222,789 – $319,701 per annum (AUD) plus 12% superannuation.
