Digital & Social Media Coordinator

About the role

The Media and Digital Engagement team is seeking a creative Digital & Social Media Coordinator to shape and manage the Australian Electoral Commission’s digital presence across platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, X, Threads, LinkedIn and the AEC website.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute strategic digital and social media plans that inform the community about electoral rights and responsibilities.
• Design high‑quality visual and video content for short‑form trends, longer educational pieces, and engaging graphics.
• Perform social listening, reporting and community management on all AEC social channels.
• Support broader media and public‑relations activities as required.
• Adapt content to emerging trends and ensure compliance with legislative and budget parameters.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in planning and implementing communication activities across multiple digital channels.
• Strong understanding of what content performs well on each platform and ability to spot trends.
• Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a small, fast‑paced team.
• Australian citizenship and willingness to obtain required character and security clearances.

Required skills

• Basic video editing and graphic design using tools such as Capcut and Canva.
• Proficiency in scripting, filming, and editing short‑form and longer‑form video content.
