Detail Designer – 12‑Month Fixed‑Term (Multiple Locations)

About the role

BAE Systems Australia is seeking experienced Designers/Draftspersons for a 12‑month fixed‑term contract on the Hunter Class Frigate program. Positions are available in Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Cairns or Perth and do not require prior shipbuilding experience.

Key responsibilities

• Produce high‑quality spatial integration and production outputs using digital engineering toolsets such as AutoCAD, FORAN and Windchill.
• Identify and meet internal and external customer needs, reporting progress to functional and project management.
• Prepare and maintain accurate technical documents, records and reports in line with engineering and quality standards.
• Participate in problem‑solving teams to improve technical systems and processes.
• For senior roles: lead a small team of designers, ensure competency in core engineering tools, and oversee delivery of allocated outputs.

Required profile

• Intermediate level: 2‑10 years of relevant experience.
• Senior level: over 10 years of industry experience, preferably maritime.
• Ability to work collaboratively within an international detail‑design team.
