Design Team Leader - Capital Program

About the role

Hydro Tasmania is looking for a Design Team Leader based in Nipaluna (Hobart) or Kanamaluka (Launceston). You will lead a team of engineers who plan, coordinate and deliver design outcomes across the company's capital program, reporting to the Engineering Planning Manager. The role provides technical leadership on complex refurbishment and asset renewal projects, working with project leaders, specialists and stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, coach and develop a high-performing team of engineers to deliver project outcomes.
• Plan and deliver complex design packages across major capital, refurbishment and asset renewal projects.
• Coordinate engineering resources, schedules, deliverables and project priorities.
• Maintain design baselines, engineering standards and Safety in Design principles.
• Manage design changes, technical risks and multidisciplinary interfaces throughout project lifecycles.
• Translate complex technical concepts into clear insights for stakeholders and decision-makers.
• Drive continuous improvement in engineering, design management and project delivery.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience leading engineering teams and developing their capability.
• Proven success planning and delivering complex capital projects.
• Strong technical knowledge across design, refurbishment and project delivery lifecycles.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and build partnerships.

Required skills

• Design management and project governance.
• Project scheduling (MS Project).
• Exposure to SAP, asset planning and large-scale industrial or power generation assets.
