Design Manager (High Voltage)

About the role

Megavar is a specialist high voltage engineering firm delivering primary and secondary design, SCADA, distribution design, testing and commissioning, and substation maintenance for network businesses, generators and renewable energy developers across Tasmania, NSW, Victoria, SA and Queensland. It is looking for a Design Manager to lead its high voltage design team, coordinating primary, secondary, SCADA and distribution design across substation, transmission and renewable energy connection projects. The role is hands-on technical leadership, owning design quality, programme and resourcing.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the HV design team to deliver coordinated primary, secondary (protection and control), SCADA and distribution design packages.
• Plan and resource design scopes and work with project managers to deliver them on time and within budget.
• Oversee design from concept through detailed design to issued-for-construction documentation, including design review, checking and verification.
• Own design quality: design standards, review processes and continuous improvement of design practice.
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to engineers, designers and drafters.
• Engage with clients and network operators on design requirements, interfaces and approvals.
• Contribute technical input and design estimates to proposals.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in electrical or power engineering.
• At least 5 years' experience in high voltage infrastructure design: substations, transmission or distribution.
• Demonstrated experience leading design teams and managing design scopes on HV projects.
• Chartered status (CPEng) is an advantage.

Required skills

• Sound knowledge of Australian standards and network business design requirements.
• Clear communication with clients, project managers and multidisciplinary teams.
• Attention to detail and the discipline to deliver to programme.
