Design Engineer

About the role

Join Hitachi Construction Machinery Australia’s engineering team in Wacol, Brisbane as a Design Engineer. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will develop functional, safe and sustainable solutions for heavy mobile earth‑moving equipment used by mining customers.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver engineering designs and modifications for heavy mobile earth‑moving equipment.
• Create detailed 3D models, engineering drawings and design documentation using CAD software.
• Perform static and fatigue hand calculations and support finite element analysis (FEA) to validate product integrity.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify continuous‑improvement opportunities and ensure compliance with engineering standards, safety and quality requirements.
• Provide technical expertise to operations, service teams and customers, and support product development and innovation initiatives.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
• Demonstrated commitment to safety and a customer‑focused mindset.
• Professional communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Preferably CPEng and/or RPEQ accreditation.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks highly regarded).
• Experience performing static and fatigue hand calculations.
• Experience using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools.
• Technical design capability for heavy mobile earth‑moving equipment.
