Deputy Director of Pharmacy (Clinical)

About the role

The Deputy Director of Pharmacy (Clinical) provides strategic and operational leadership for a portfolio of clinical pharmacy services at a major tertiary hospital. Reporting to senior pharmacy leadership, you will ensure safe, high‑quality, patient‑centred care while driving innovation and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and oversee clinical pharmacy services across the hospital to deliver safe, effective, patient‑centred care.
• Develop, implement and evaluate innovative models of clinical pharmacy practice.
• Manage a large multidisciplinary team of pharmacists across multiple clinical areas.
• Foster a culture of excellence, accountability, teamwork and continuous improvement.
• Lead workforce planning, recruitment, succession planning and professional development initiatives.
• Build strong partnerships with medical, nursing and allied health leaders to optimise patient outcomes.
• Support pharmacy research, education, training and quality‑improvement programmes.
• Contribute to organisational strategic planning and health‑service transformation initiatives.

Required profile

• Registration as a Pharmacist with the Pharmacy Board of Australia (AHPRA).
• Minimum 8 years of hospital pharmacy experience, including leadership and management responsibility.
• Proven success leading clinical pharmacy services, workforce development and service‑improvement initiatives.
• Strong strategic thinking, change‑management and service‑development capabilities.
• Commitment to patient‑centred care, medication safety and quality improvement.
• Demonstrated ability to lead high‑performing teams and foster a collaborative culture.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder‑engagement and influencing skills.
